bad horsie

My son and I watched a Steve Vai DVD this afternoon (much better than the youtube audio and video below). He liked the alien look (especially the laser rings) and sound of Vai on this one. I agree but Billy Sheehan didn't have the bass sound and look I liked on the older version (second video). I don't know who that guy on bass is but he's pretty scary.

These videos are not for the faint of heart, rock haters, or epileptics.

The best show I had ever seen was the G3 tour

Joe Satriani
Steve Vai
Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

Joe is too humble and Steve is also, yet I am always amazed that the showmanship and the musicianship of these guys... Steve make everything look like he is doing nothing!

And I can't remember the earlier bass player either... the audio is not that good but I do remember hearing it before and the he makes the bass growl from the bowls of the earth!

Make me want to get my guitar out and make my ears bleed...

Blessings,
iggy

G3 is so cool!!! I agree with your assessment.

I saw Joe Satriani a year ago and I recently saw him on a G3 tour with John Petrucci and Paul Gilbert. AND - we were fortunate in that Mike Portnoy was on drums.

Dave LaRue was on bass. He's great but he just didn't have the dirt and look that this guy on the second video has.

Rick,
How do you tell if this kind of music is good or bad? I don't mean spiritually, I mean musically. What criteria do you use?

no blog - that's a good question. I don't think that hard. I personally enjoy it. Other's that play these instruments strive to achieve what these guys do. Most cannot mimic it. Etc..

I ask that question of paintings? What others tell me is "good art" looks like garbage to me.

I suppose it's in the eye (or ear) of the beholder.

I think you have listened to too much loud hard rock music without earplugs.
