If our faith in Jesus is founded merely upon his charismatic authority - in his eloquence, his miracles, and the strength of his personality - then there is always a danger that our faith would transfer to whoever we think inspires more loyalty, through a greater “demonstration of extraordinary insight and accomplishment”. This is exactly why some Christians, whose first-love was Jesus Christ, are enticed by leaders of heretical cults. Our faith in Jesus must primarily be based upon his identity as the Son of God, for therein lies the true basis of his authority. Any charismatic authority that Jesus displays is simply the human manifestation of his identity as God incarnate.
