orthodoxy v. compassion

Francis Schaeffer is credited with saying, "Biblical orthodoxy without compassion is surely the ugliest thing in the world." I'll agree with that. I'd add that compassion without orthodoxy is pretty darn ugly too. Interestingly, when compassion flows out of a right soul renewed by the Spirit in the Word of Truth, this is very, very beautiful.

I have always felt that Jesus was more concerned about our heart of compassion than our theological understanding and agreement with His orthodoxy. In other words, our correct focus on orphans, widows and the poor seems to override the importance of end times theology or our understanding of the Trinity.
