My dad thinks his righteousness depends on him being righteous, that it is a credit to him. I explained to him that for me to stand before Christ in heaven trying to present my righteousness on my own merits was going to be a fruitless activity. Any righteousness I have will be nothing compared to Christ's righteousness. The righteousness I have as a believer is imputed to me, I didn't earn it. I don't think he got it, but he heard it.
I have been given a robe of righteousness by Christ! Hallelujah!
Isaiah 64:6 The Amplified Bible For we have all become like one who is unclean [ceremonially, like a leper], and all our righteousness (our best deeds of rightness and justice) is like filthy rags or a polluted garment; we all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away [far from God's favor, hurrying us toward destruction].
